WHAT IS AQUIDNECK FARMS GRASS-FED BEEF?

In today’s market there are a number of labels used to describe sustainable meats. At Aquidneck Farms we have chosen to produce just one: Grass-fed.

Aquidneck Farms cattle never receive growth hormones or feed added antibiotics and no animal by-products or food wastes are added to their diet. Grain is never used in their finishing. The feed we use is a high quality seed mixture grown on local fields, restored and managed by Aquidneck Farms. Our grass is harvested and stored for winter use (by the Farm) and sale (to local dairy and livestock farmers). We fertilize our pastures with our own Farm made compost and we do not apply pesticides or herbicides to our fields.

Most of our cattle are born on the farm, raised on mother’s milk and naturally weaned on lush grass-legume pastures. Our herd is rotationally grazed among our various pastures throughout the growing season. During the winter they are fed Farm-grown and stored forage in the form of dry-hay and grass-silage. Because not all breeds do well on a grass diet, when we began adding cattle to the farm, all cows were source verified. When we breed, we select genetics that will thrive in a sustainable, grass based system.

Aquidneck Farms Grass-Fed Beef is just that; local cattle fed on local grass and seed.
